Vikings invade: Pub-goers treated to a pinch of the past at The Dove Inn, Alburgh

A small, but hardy, group of Vikings resurfaced in a small area of south Norfolk, as pub-goers were treated to a taste of history.

The spectacle, which was put on by re-enactment group Jormungandr Austr, took place in the grounds of The Dove Inn in Alburgh on May 18.

It included a Viking camp, archery, axe throwing and a combat demonstration.

Landlady Sonya Remblance said the event was a big success.

“We are very lucky to have these kind of historical groups in the area and we saw so many families with happy children enjoying the day,” she told the Diss Express.

“Last summer was our first Viking day and it was very popular, so we hope to keep hosting them each year.

“People stayed until the end of the event and we had some lovely weather, too, so it really was a great day for everyone.”

The village pub has plans to hold further events over the summer.

“We are a bed and breakfast as well as a pub and we have an acre of land to make use of, so we want to use that to support social events and get families out enjoying themselves,” said Mrs Remblance.

“We’re looking to host pop-up crafts and bands, and we are looking to have the Viking group back again on August 17.”
