£67m man Chelsea wanted under Graham Potter could now be Enzo Maresca’s first signing - journalist

Chelsea are already making strides to bring their first signing under Enzo Maresca to the club, a player who could help their new era no end.

Maresca is said to want three new signings at Stamford Bridge, a goalkeeper, a left-back and a forward.

And perhaps to fund those deals, it seems as if four Chelsea players could already have one foot out of the door.

There’s bound to be a fair bit of change at the club this summer, but fans will hope Chelsea’s hierarchy recognise the need for some continuity.

Despite his departure, which remains controversial to this day, Mauricio Pochettino ultimately did some excellent work building a foundation for future success last season – one the club shouldn’t entirely change.

That being said, a slight personnel change will be needed as Chelsea attempt to alter their playing style, putting a greater emphasis on positional play and ball retention.

And there are also still glaring weaknesses in the squad, which simply can’t be ignored this summer, starting with insufficiencies in the club’s goalkeeping department.

Chelsea make approach to sign 20-cap Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa who Man City also like

Robert Sanchez hasn’t necessarily improved from the form that saw him dropped at Brighton & Hove Albion, and despite his promise, Djordje Petrovic looks best as a number two for now.

Fortunately, according to journalist Rudy Galetti, Chelsea have now made an approach for FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

Sharing his update on X, Galetti said that Porto are open to selling 24-year-old should a suitable offer be received.

He explained: “Diogo Costa has been approached by Chelsea, which are looking for a new goalkeeper.

“Porto are open to selling the Portugal GK in the summer, in case an offer is deemed satisfactory.

“Other EPL clubs – like Man City – showed an interest in him.”

Chelsea were interested in Diogo Costa when Graham Potter was in charge

Costa reportedly has a £67m release-clause in his contract, a price tag that Chelsea will surely look to reduce.

The Portugal international is a fine talent, but Chelsea may be reluctant to invest so heavily in goalkeeper once again following their struggles with Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Perhaps the Spainard’s future will also play a role in any decision, given he is set to return from his Real Madrid loan.

Of course, Diogo Costa was said to be of interest to Chelsea back in February of last year, when Graham Potter was still in charge.

Both Sanchez and Costa were said to be on the shortlist at the time, meaning some at Chelsea may now regret the decision they made.

All that being said, Chelsea have also established a new Argentinian full-back to target this summer.
