‘I understand’: Chelsea could now sell £60m player Mauricio Pochettino was ‘very keen on keeping’ - journalist

Chelsea are set for another summer of change.

Indeed, the Blues are once again heading into a new season with a new manager in place, and, by the sounds of it, there will be further surgery performed on this squad.

Speaking on The Byline, Sami Mokbel has been discussing Chelsea’s summer transfer plans, and he’s named Marc Cucurella, along with Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah as three players who could be sold this summer.

Interestingly, Mokbel noted that Mauricio Pochettino was initially very keen to keep these players.

Chelsea could sell Marc Cucurella

Mokbel spoke about the £60m man and his two teammates.

“I would imagine that Poch wanted to keep Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah. Do you think that Maresca is coming in and being told that Gallagher is up for sale, Chalobah is up for sale, I even heard that Cucurella is up for sale,” The host said.

“It’s interesting those three names there that you mention. I know those are three players that Mauricio Pochettino was very keen on keeping and I understand that those three players the club would at the very least listen to offers for this summer,” Mokbel said.

“That’s another example of how the club and the Head Coach weren’t reading off the same hymn sheet.”

Marc Cucurella’s time is up

Pochettino may have disagreed, but selling Cucurella probably isn’t the worst idea for Chelsea this summer.

With all due respect, the Spaniard hasn’t been up to standard since joining the Blues, and with Ian Maatsen performing so well out on loan at Borussia Dortmund, there’s a ready-made replacement already on the books raring to go.

Where Cucurella ends up remains to be seen, but, by the sounds of it, he no longer has a future at Chelsea.

Cucurella may well rediscover his form elsewhere, but his time at Stamford Bridge hasn’t quite worked out.
