Brennan Johnson reacts after hearing Tottenham had signed Timo Werner again

Tottenham Hotspur winger Brennan Johnson has reacted to the news which emerged on Tuesday as Timo Werner’s stay at the club was made official for next season.

Ange Postecoglou brought Timo Werner to north London in the January transfer window with options up top sparse.

The German signed an initial short-term loan deal until the end of the campaign with the option to make his stay permanent for a fee of £15m.

Although Tottenham did not take up the buy clause they had with RB Leipzig, they have been able to negotiate an extension of his loan stay.

Werner’s loan will be valid from July 2024 through until June 2025 and Spurs will retain the option the buy him permanently next summer.

And now the 28-year-old’s stay for the 2024/25 campaign has been confirmed, his teammate Brennan Johnson has now reacted to the news.

Brennan Johnson reacts as Spurs confirmed Timo Werner loan deal

Werner’s time at Spurs came at a time when Postecoglou’s options were stretched due to Heung-min Son‘s involvement in national duty at the Asian Cup.

Werner’s future at Spurs may have been put in doubt towards the end of the campaign when he picked up a hamstring injury in the North London Derby which ended his season.

However, Postecoglou has spoken about his expectation for Daniel Levy to provide him with more attackers this summer and Spurs already have one on board before the window has opened.

The German posted about the news on his Instagram account on Tuesday where he shared his excitement ahead of pre-season.

“Happy to be a Spurs next year! Looking forward to see you all in the stadium for an incredible season,” he said.

And his Welsh teammate, Johnson, took to the comments to share his delight in seeing Werner remain at the club for another year as he replied with three smiley face emojis.

During their brief stint together, the two wingers were able to combine to provide a number of goals for each other with some sensational crosses provided from both sides of the pitch.

One which stands out is the goal in the opening minutes of the game against West Ham where Werner whipped in a fierce cross which Johnson turned home.

There were certainly signs the pair were forming a solid partnership with Johnson waxing lyrical about Werner following the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Nottingham Forest.

“So I think when he gets the ball recently and kind of takes it down the line, I felt like I have to be in the position because he’s so fast. I have to be able to catch up with him and it’s the same one that was hard when he when I got the ball and looked across it. He’s always in the right areas,” he said.
