The trio Chelsea should sign as Enzo Maresca reportedly targets three key positions - opinion

It looks like Enzo Maresca already knows what positions he wants to strengthen at Chelsea this summer.

Enzo Maresca is set to become the new Chelsea manager, and it has been reported that the Italian is keen to bring in a new goalkeeper, left-back and forward.

With that in mind, then, who should the Blues be looking at ahead of the summer transfer window opening?

Ederson

Ederson is a player who Maresca knows well from his time working at Manchester City.

The 30-year-old is currently City’s first-choice goalkeeper, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently claimed on X that he could leave the Etihad this summer.

If Ederson really does become available, then Chelsea should be all over that. The Brazilian would be perfect for Maresca’s possession-based football.

Ederson ticks practically every box, being renowned for being able to play with his feet.

Alphonso Davies

Given how Marc Cucurella finished the season, signing a new left-back may not have to be a priority for Chelsea.

The Spaniard was excellent as an inverted full-back and was starting to offer Chelsea something going forward.

For example, in the Blues’ 2-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion in their penultimate fixture of the season, it was his cross that set up Cole Palmer’s fantastic header.

However, if Maresca really is desperate to bring in a new left-back, then Alphonso Davies has to be his No.1 choice. He has experience at the top level and could be on the market, as his contract expires next year.

Victor Osimhen

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is probably the best signing Chelsea can make this summer.

Scoring 17 times this season and on 31 occasions the campaign before, the Nigerian should guarantee Maresca goals if Chelsea can land him.

Signing Osimhen or another centre-forward could be the difference between coming sixth again and finishing in the top four.

It is thought that Osimhen’s priority this summer is joining Chelsea.
