Player who Lionel Messi called ‘not human’ could now leave Tottenham after club announce contract news

Tottenham Hotspur could now allow a player to leave this summer who Lionel Messi once hailed as not being human.

Although the summer transfer window has not opened for business yet, Tottenham have already completed their first arrival for the new season.

Ange Postecoglou‘s first season in charge has earned Spurs a spot in the Europa League for next season which will require a boost to Tottenham’s squad depth.

And that may well be why Timo Werner has been brought in on another loan deal for the entirety of the 2024/25 campaign.

However, that was not the only piece of business which Spurs announced on Tuesday with one player extending his stay at Hotspur Way.

The news of a contract extension could spell the end of the line for another player at Tottenham with one year remaining on his deal.

Tottenham announce new deal for Brandon Austin

Although the new was overshadowed by the return for Timo Werner, Spurs did also announce goalkeeper Brandon Austin had signed a new deal until 2029.

The 25-year-old has come through the club’s academy but is yet to make his senior debut for the first team.

Austin has spent time away from Spurs on a couple of different loans which have ranged from moving to Norway all the way over to the United States.

His new contract, however, could spell bad news for one Spurs player this summer who could now become surplus to requirements over the coming weeks.

Fraser Forster is going into this summer with just one year remaining on his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 36-year-old is believed to be one of 15 players who Tottenham could part ways with this summer and this could, therefore, spell the end of the road for the English giant.

Spurs also have Alfie Whiteman at the club but Spurs may now look to bring through the likes of Luca Gunter into the first team squad.

Tottenham’s clear faith in Austin could well now be a sign that the club are looking to make him their number-two goalkeeper for the upcoming season despite his lack of experience in England.

What Lionel Messi once said about Fraser Forster

It has been a difficult campaign for Forster who has not played a second of football under Postecoglou having also suffered up a broken foot.

But this is still a goalkeeper who has vast experience and played one of his best games in the Champions League for Celtic against Barcelona.

In front of a packed Parkhead, Celtic were able to beat a Barcelona side led by Lionel Messi which saw the legendary Argentine left stunned by just how good Forster was for the Bhoys.

“The performance of Fraser Forster against us was talked about for a long time,” Messi said.

“There was one game in Scotland when he was not human, it was the best goalkeeping performance I have seen

Perhaps Spurs see out the final year of Forster’s deal, but with Guglielmo Vicario between the sticks, it does feel like opportunities are now going to be extremely limited as the Italian looks ready to tackle every game.
