Ally McCoist has suggested that one Manchester City star is similar to Kylian Mbappe.
The Frenchman, after scoring 256 goals and delivering 108 assists in 308 games for Paris Saint-Germain since 2017, is set to leave the Ligue 1 club as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the month.
Widely recognised as one of Europe’s top players right now, the 25-year-old has now found himself being mentioned in the same breath as one of City’s most prominent players as a result of one specific attribute they both share.
McCoist says Man City star is similar to Mbappe
Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist had this to say about fast players when discussing Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky Van de Ven.
He said: “He looks absolutely lightning, Van de Ven. There’s players that take your breath away with speed, Mbappe is one, Kyle Walker is one.”
Back in the 2017 summer transfer window, the same window Mbappe joined PSG on his initial loan move from Monaco, City paid £50m to sign Walker from Tottenham.
Since then, the Englishman has made 301 appearances for the Manchester club across all competitions, chipping in with six goals and 23 assists, as well as winning a plethora of trophies along the way.
Walker’s pace is a big asset
In terms of his pace, this isn’t the first time this particular attribute has been highlighted as being something that makes Walker a special player.
For example, after seeing the 34-year-old register the highest top speed in a Premier League match last season (37.31 km/h), Pep Guardiola said that Walker’s physical qualities make him a “unique” player and “incomparable” to anyone else.
As well as that, Thierry Henry said last season that attacking players “might as well stop running” if they find themselves in a race with the City captain due to his pace, strength and defensive ability.
With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why McCoist has put the defender in the same bracket as Mbappe, who has an approximated top speed of 38 km/h, in terms of how fast they are.
