Report: Wolves eye 15 G/A West Brom ace who had higher take-on success rate than Pedro Neto in 2023/24

Wolves have been linked with a player from bitter rivals West Bromwich Albion ahead of the summer transfer window.

Fans are optimistic that Wanderers will have a productive summer this time around, and that there will be some exciting additions.

Wolves mainly sold players one year ago, amid a worrying financial situation. But those sales helped Wolves to balance the books, and the club should have more freedom this time around.

There could still be big sales, with Pedro Neto and Rayan Ait-Nouri both linked with exits. But there likely won’t be an exodus like there was in 2023.

So far there have been a few links to potential incomings.

But none have been as out-of-the-blue as this latest one…

Wolves said to be interested in West Brom winger Grady Diangana

It has been claimed by Africa Foot that Wolves are one of a few clubs interested in signing Grady Diangana of West Bromwich Albion.

His former club West Ham United are also keen to re-sign him, while Brighton, Leicester, Lazio and Roma also hold an interest.

Diangana has been with West Brom since 2019 having joined on loan initially. He turned his move to Albion permanent in the summer of 2020.

Diangana, who has five caps for DR Congo, enjoyed a fairly productive season in 2023/24, scoring seven goals and making eight assists across all competitions. He is about to enter the final year of his contract at the Hawthorns, meaning there is potential for someone to snap him up for a decent fee.

Diangana would be an underwhelming signing

This transfer link to Diangana isn’t likely to get too many Wolves fans excited.

Obviously there is the fact he plays for bitter rivals West Brom, but his numbers are nothing to really shout home about.

In 167 appearances for the Baggies, he has scored 21 goals and made 19 assists. He’s been in the Premier League before with West Brom and West Ham, making 37 appearances in the competition across the two clubs. He has scored just the one goal and made one assist.

Wolves will be needing at least one new winger this summer, but a move for Diangana just feels a bit underwhelming.

He is a decent dribbler. In fact, as per data from fbref.com, Diangana (47.1%) actually had a better take-on success rate than Wolves star Neto (42%) in 2023/24 in the league.

It could well be that Gary O’Neil turns him into a proper player, like he has done with plenty of others since walking through the door at Molineux.

Hopefully, Wolves will focus on someone who is a bit more proven.
