Ange Postecoglou has done something only one other Tottenham boss has managed in the Premier League era

Ange Postecoglou has done something only one other Tottenham Hotspur manager, Andre Villas-Boas, has managed in the Premier League era.

Most would agree that Ange Postecoglou’s debut season at Tottenham has been an encouraging one.

The Aussie boss inherited a mess last summer, with plenty of supporters disillusioned with the Spurs board after an eighth-place finish.

While there is some way to go to dispel those feelings, Postecoglou has largely rallied the fanbase behind his side this term.

Tottenham will return to Europe after securing a fifth-place finish and should fancy themselves to have a real go at the Europa League next season.

And as far as debut seasons go, only one former Spurs manager picked up more wins in his first campaign at the club.

Postecoglou hits impressive Tottenham landmark

Spurs missed out on the Champions League by just three points as Aston Villa pipped them to fourth.

But Postecoglou should be fairly satisfied with his efforts in the league, having picked up 20 wins in total.

Only Andre Villas-Boas managed more in his first season as he managed 21. The Portuguese boss still missed out on fourth though, despite picking up 72 points in total.

To put Postecoglou’s first full term in charge into context, Mauricio Pochettino managed 19 wins and 64 points, in comparison to the Aussie’s points total of 66.

Tottenham must back Postecoglou

While there is reason to be optimistic about the future under Postecoglou, Spurs’ late-season form showed there is plenty of work to be done.

Tottenham suffered five defeats in their last seven Premier League games, which ultimately led to them missing out on Champions League football.

Postecoglou has reportedly already decided he wants to strengthen three key areas of his side by signing a new centre-back, midfielder and striker this summer.

It feels vital that Spurs back the Aussie in the upcoming window and build on an encouraging start under his guidance.
