'Really keen': Fabrizio Romano says manager Pep Guardiola called 'one of the best' now wants the Man United job

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that one manager is ‘really keen’ to become the next Manchester United boss.

The Red Devils are still debating whether to sack Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman looked like he was going to be shown the door, but the FA Cup win against Manchester City seems to have delayed that decision.

Manchester United have not decided on Ten Hag’s future, but if they do sack him, they will need to replace him with someone much, much better.

Fabrizio Romano shares update on Thomas Tuchel and Manchester United

Thomas Tuchel has been linked with a move to Manchester United for a few months now.

The German has left Bayern Munich after just over a year at the helm at the Allianz Arena. He has been replaced by Vincent Kompany there.

Tuchel is available for a new challenge now, and reports revealed in April that he is ‘open’ to holding talks about the Manchester United job.

A month before that, it was claimed that the 50-year-old would rather join Manchester United even though he can imagine returning to Chelsea.

Now, as discussions continue over Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Tuchel’s stance.

The journalist has revealed that the German is ready to return to the Premier League and that he would be ‘really keen’ on becoming Manchester United’s next manager.

Romano said in his Daily Briefing: “In case United part ways with Ten Hag, there are several candidates that could replace him. The Red Devils have already spoken with several agents, but I can also say that Thomas Tuchel would be really keen on returning to the Premier League.

“Tuchel is super keen on coming back to England and he knows that this is a new project at Old Trafford now, even if there’s no Champions League for the club next season.

“Tuchel won the competition at Chelsea, of course, and reached the final with Paris Saint-Germain, but he’d still be really keen on taking the United job even without the Champions League.

“So, Tuchel is ready, let’s see what United will decide on the manager situation, but potentially the next days will be crucial to have an answer on that, and then they can prepare for the summer transfer window.”

What Pep Guardiola has said about Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel has gone toe-to-toe with Pep Guardiola on multiple occasions in the past.

The German doesn’t have a great record against the Manchester City boss – he has only won three of their 12 meetings against each other.

However, Tuchel got the better of Guardiola in a game that mattered the most – the Champions League final in May 2021. Chelsea beat City to win the crown.

Speaking about that defeat in April 2023, ahead of a game against Tuchel’s Bayern Munich, Guardiola told Manchester City’s official website: “Tuchel is one of the best managers for sure and has done really well everywhere.

“Champions League, in Paris and England. It will be a pleasure to see him again. I congratulated him [after the Champions League final].

“It happens. You lose games and you win games, you lose games, we lost it. We are here again, we try it again.”
