'Different': £40m player confirms that he once had trials at Nottingham Forest but didn't sign

One sought-after star from European football has been sharing details of a trial with Nottingham Forest in 2015.

The Reds have let several players slip through the net over the years.

Most notably, Forest once told Shaun Wright-Phillips he was too small before he won Premier League titles and collected England caps.

Then, the Reds allowed Tom Huddlestone to join the academy ranks at Derby with the midfielder going on to have a brilliant Premier League career.

Now, a player currently being sought by several top-flight clubs in England has shared details of a trial he had at the City Ground.

Jean-Clair Todibo shares details of trial at Nottingham Forest

Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo has come through the ranks at Toulouse and found himself a home with Nice in Ligue 1, via spells with Schalke, Barcelona and Benfica.

However, before he made it as one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe, he was trying to find a club in England to take him.

Now, he’s shared details of what life was like on trial with Forest and Manchester United back in 2015.

He told the Daily Mail: “I had trials at Nottingham Forest, Le Havre and Manchester United when I was 15 but chose to join Toulouse.

“The culture was different at United and Forest. They weren’t like the players in my neighbourhood just trying to enjoy it, they were on a mission, trying to be professional.

“That wasn’t my mindset at the time, I was there to enjoy and play football.”

Todibo is another who got away from Forest

It’s thought that Todibo is now valued at around £40 million by Nice and he could be on the move this summer.

With bigger clubs interested in services, Forest have definitely missed their calling when it comes to the defender.

Former Forest loanee, Aaron Ramsey, has played alongside Todibo and he called him ‘very talented’ last year.

Todibo has gone on to make 136 appearances for Nice but now he could move on this summer with a number of clubs keen on him.

Tottenham and Manchester United are the clubs most keen on his services and he’s valued at around £40 million.

Forest can’t get every transfer right and perhaps there was an element that Todibo didn’t really want to sign for the club too.

However, it does show that they’re getting the right youngsters in for trials and perhaps better judgement can be used in the future.

If Todibo does head over to England this summer, it will be fascinating from a Forest perspective to see how he gets on.
