Three Chelsea players have been named in the Premier League young Team of the Season

One of the most notable things about the Chelsea squad that competed this season was just how young the side they used were.

Even with veteran defender Thiago Silva in there, the average age of the entire squad was amongst the youngest in the entire league.

This no doubt caused issues for Mauricio Pochettino at times. Many would point to the EFL Cup final as an example of a moment his side lacked the required leadership.

Nevertheless, some of these young players, many who were in their first seasons for the club, stepped up to a level where they would actually be compared to the better players in their role.

The obvious candidate for this is Cole Palmer, who picked up both player of the season honours at the club’s awards night.

Cole Palmer, Malo Gusto and Nicolas Jackson named in young Team of the Season

Sitting as the second top scorer in the Premier League, it is easy to see why he was one of the three Blues named in the Daily Mail’s young Team of the Season.

One of his teammates who he was joined was Malo Gusto, the player Palmer admitted he actually voted for to win player of the season at Chelsea’s awards night.

In just his first season at the club he was tasked with filling in for the injured Reece James for the majority of the campaign, a task he performed admirably.

He showed both attacking and defensive prowess, with the Blues at times hardly missing their club captain on the pitch.

Jackson hoping for no new striker

The final Chelsea man named in the squad was Nicolas Jackson, who did quite a job to turn around the media’s perception of him after a tough start.

His purple patch at the end of the season was one of the contributing factors to Chelsea actually qualifying for European football for next season, and he will be hoping it was enough to deter the Blues from making a big money signing up front.
