Report: Celtic could sell eight players this summer as Brendan Rodgers plans big changes

The Celtic summer transfer window is one that the fans are really looking forward to this year.

With Champions League group-stage football to look forward to and with that, comes the huge UEFA bounty that Brendan Rodgers will be looking to get a huge slice of to improve the team.

With a number of positions likely to be on the Celtic boss’ list to improve, there are likely to be plenty of rumours surrounding the club right up until the ensuing deadline day in September.

However, adding players means that there is the inevitable eventuality that players will need to move on to improve the balance of the Celtic squad.

And according to a report in The Scottish Sun, up to eight players could leave Celtic this summer as Rodgers plans a big summer clear-out.

Celtic to cut over £60,000 per week from wage bill

The Celtic fans will have a sneaky suspicion on who Brendan Rodgers wants to keep at the club. You only need to look at the list of players who are not getting any game time to make an educated guess.

But the report in The Scottish Sun has named eight players that they claim could be in for a Celtic summer exit and here, we look at how much money this could trim off the hefty weekly wage bill.

All figures are taken from SalarySport:

When you take into account that no information is there for Lawal and Kwon that is an incredible amount of money.

And let’s not forget the wages James McCarthy is still picking up (£14,000), Celtic are wasting an incredible amount of money on players who are not contributing to the team.

However, I don’t think Lawal is likely to move on after his impressive season on loan at Fleetwood Town. I think there is a player in there that Rodgers would like to work with.

No doubt Rodgers has a big job on his hands and if he can get these players off the bill and reinvest it properly into the team then the Celtic fans could be in for a very busy transfer window indeed.
