Sawston & Babraham enjoy positive weekend in East Anglian Premier League and T20 Cup

Sawston & Babraham enjoyed a positive bank holiday weekend of cricket.

On Saturday the Rams (202) battled against the odds to secure an unlikely draw at home with Great Witchingham (199-9) in the Thurlow Nunn East Anglian Premier League.

And that was followed on Monday by victories over Saffron Walden and Bury St Edmunds to progress through to the next stage of the National T20 competition.

Sawston & Babraham batted first against Witchingham and just edged themselves beyond the 200-run mark, thanks largely to knocks of 65 and 43 not out from Charlie Lewis and James Vandepeer respectively.

However, with the home side having made their way on to 190-6 in the 58th over during their reply, Sawston & Babraham were staring down the barrel of a defeat.

But during the final five overs the away side restricted Witchingham to 9-3 to claim themselves a share of the spoils.

Dan Heath’s side then continued that good feeling by progressing at the expense of Walden and Bury 48 hours later. Opening batsman Wayne White (100) was Sawston & Babraham’s star performer in the final encounter against Bury with a 58-ball century to help guide his team to a comfortable 89-run victory.

Fifth-placed Sawston & Babraham will be back in Premier League action on Saturday (1 June) when they travel to face a Mildenhall side that currently occupy third spot.
