Report: Wolves 'considering' move for 'long-standing' striker target wanted by two Premier League rivals

Wolves could face competition from other Premier League clubs for one target that could help Gary O’Neil’s transfer wish come true.

The 2023/24 campaign was full of ups and downs for Wolves, who were led to a 14th-place finish by Gary O’Neil.

There was some fear for the Englishman going into his first season at Molineux, as the Old Gold’s squad was depleted after the 2023 summer transfer window.

For all of the obstacles that the manager faced in his debut campaign, the upcoming transfer window can provide Wolves with the tools needed to overcome such hurdles.

One area that O’Neil has been frustrated about strengthening is his department of strikers, with the club now said to be in the race to sign a Premier League forward.

Wolves will battle Crystal Palace and Fulham to sign Eddie Nketiah

While Che Adams seems the most likely candidate to join Wolves to replenish the front line, it has now been reported that O’Neil could eye the club’s long-term target, Eddie Nketiah.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, transfer expert Dean Jones shared that Wolves join Crystal Palace and Fulham in the race to seal a deal for the Arsenal striker.

“…Wolves, Palace and Fulham – particularly Wolves and Palace – have had a long-standing interest in Nketiah.

“So there’s several Premier League clubs, but particularly those three that I mentioned, that might be considering Nketiah – it’s just about meeting Arsenal’s asking price.”

Earlier this month, 90min claimed that the Gunners could ask for a price between £30m and £35m in the transfer window, as the 25-year-old seems far from Mikel Arteta’s immediate plans.

Eddie Nketiah could be a good signing for Wolves if the price is right

While Nketiah’s talent can not be denied given the glimpses of quality he has shown at Arsenal over the years, the price must be right for Wolves to acquire him.

What O’Neil won’t want is to repeat a Fabio Silva-type scenario, where a player’s value is overpaid for without sufficient evidence that he is worth such a figure.

Considering that Nketiah’s highest-scoring season in the Premier League amounts to just five goals, there will be questions asked over the price that Arsenal ask for, with a fee in the region of £35m particularly high when assessing other options.

That being said, there is a talent there to be unleashed, with the Englishman not having a consistent chance to prove himself at the Emirates and showing shades of his potential that could help a side crying out for depth in attack like Wolves.

Only time will tell if the Old Gold can beat their Premier League rivals to secure a deal for Nketiah, who could thrive in O’Neil’s environment away from being stuck far down the pecking order in North London.
