Chelsea admire £30m player as club explore new signing in priority position for Enzo Maresca - journalist

Chelsea are now looking at a £30m-rated La Liga star who plays the position that has suddenly become a priority this summer.

It’s been claimed that the Blues are specifically targeting a new signing in one area of the pitch because of incoming manager Enzo Maresca.

The general consensus from reports across the media is that Leicester boss Maresca, 44, is about to be appointed Chelsea’s next head coach.

According to The Daily Mail, Maresca is on the verge of of being confirmed the new Chelsea boss and will have an eight-man backroom staff behind him at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea rate Valencia star

Journalist Ben Jacobs has shared via X that Chelsea are exploring the summer transfer market to try find a new goalkeeper. That is largely because Maresca’s system requires a keeper in-between the sticks that is very comfortable in possession.

It is explained that Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is someone that Chelsea do like.

Apparently, the Blues previously looked at the 23-year-old in the past as well.

iNews reported in May that Newcastle United are interested in signing Valencia’s Mamardashvili and have held talks over his potential signing.

In addition, the report states that the goalkeeper is rated around £30m, plus he’s got a desire to play in the Premier League for the first time in his career.

Giorgi Mamardashvili interesting target

On paper, Mamardashvili looks like quite an intriguing transfer target for Chelsea.

At the age of 23, the young shot-stopper has already played 100 first-team appearances for Spanish top division club Valencia.

The Georgia international, who’s got 16 caps for his country, looks like a potential snip for £30m.

Of course, he needs to be excellent with the ball at his feet to suit what Maresca is likely to bring to Chelsea, which is patient possession-based football built from the back.

FBREF data recorded that Mamardashvili only had a 53% passing accuracy in La Liga last season because of the amount of long passes attempted. It means he would need to adapt his game in order to suit the Blues.
