‘Wouldn’t be surprised’: Tottenham could sell ‘excellent’ player and then sign someone better – journalist

Tottenham Hotspur have to ring in the changes this summer.

Spurs were given a serious wake-up call towards the end of the season as their squad proved to be too thin and, with all due respect, not good enough.

Tottenham missed out on Champions League football this term, and in order to avoid the same fate next season, they need to improve their squad.

Speaking on The Spurs Chat Podcast, Josh Hughes has been discussing what Tottenham could do this summer, and he’s stated that Oliver Skipp is someone who could be replaced this summer, with someone better coming in his place.

Oliver Skipp could be replaced

Hughes spoke about the ‘excellent’ midfielder’s future and what could happen this summer.

“The homegrown situation is something as well. Tanganga has gone to Millwall, you look at Dier going, Kane went. I wouldn’t be surprised, I think Skipp may stay, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was one who was forced to make way for someone better,” Hughes said.

Tottenham need midfield upgrades

Tottenham could upgrade on Skipp this summer, and he’s not the only Tottenham midfielder who could be at risk of being replaced.

Indeed, Spurs’ midfield proved to be their major weak point towards the end of the season, and the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Yves Bissouma’s places in the team may also be at risk.

If Spurs are to seriously push on next season, they need to show ambition.

As painful as it may be to move a homegrown talent like Skipp on, the reality is that he’s not shown that he’s up to the standard required to win major trophies at Tottenham in the near future.

Skipp could go, and it may not be too difficult for Tottenham to find an upgrade on the midfielder this summer.

Where Skipp ends up remains to be seen, but hopefully he can find a club where he’ll be bale to play regularly and reach his potential.
