Mikel Arteta told £34m striker target on 'Arsenal's list' is just like Olivier Giroud

A striker reportedly wanted by Arsenal has now been likened to former attacker Olivier Giroud, with the Gunners in the market for a certain type of forward.

Despite scoring just five goals fewer than Manchester City this season, Arsenal are in the market for a new striker this summer, with the north London side already strongly linked with the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak.

With Mikel Arteta believed to be interested in signing a striker as a priority this summer, it’s clear that the Arsenal manager wants to bring in a forward who has height and athleticism, as well as the ability to finish their chances in the box.

And Arsenal have now been told one of their rumoured targets is similar to former striker Giroud.

Arsenal target Joshua Zirkzee likened to Giroud

As per transfer expert Ben Jacobs, Joshua Zirkzee is a striker Arsenal are interested in signing, with the journalist making the interesting point that the Bologna star is similar to former Emirates Stadium hero Giroud.

Jacobs said when asked which strikers could Arsenal move for this summer: “Joshua Zirkzee, who is widely expected to go to Milan, is one to watch. He reminds me of Giroud, he’s got a bit of everything and he has a bit of culture about how he plays. There’s a deftness at times, there’s intelligence.

“And Arsenal’s interest [in strikers] has a bit of a pattern; Benjamin Sesko, Joshua Zirkzee, these names are on Arsenal’s list, and what they’re determining is who’s available and who’s going to be a player they want but also if the selling club are prepared to do business for.

“There’s two names with concrete interest, Sesko and Zirkzee, but if Zirkzee goes to Milan, Arsenal could make a play for Sesko.”

Giroud comparison could be a blessing or a curse for Zirkzee

Giroud’s reputation is a mixed bag despite the French international’s incredible achievements in the game, with the veteran attacker a forward who has done a lot despite some shortcomings.

The striker’s time in north London was highlighted by some truly brilliant runs of form coupled with some awful performances that still stick with Arsenal fans to this game, namely against AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League.

And for Zirkzee, comparisons to Giroud could be a blessing or a curse, with the 23-year-old forward clearly ready for the next big move in his career after a historic season with Bologna in Serie A.
