'Slight change': Steve Nicol thinks Arne Slot's appointment could really help one Liverpool player

Arne Slot will be raring to go at Liverpool once he arrives on Merseyside as he takes over from Jurgen Klopp.

The Dutchman will officially take on the role on 1 June, with Klopp having only just said his final goodbyes.

The beloved German will be sorely missed by the Anfield faithful, who were forced to accept the decision he announced in January.

The manager cited low energy levels as a key reason behind his exit, something that Wayne Rooney has empathised with.

Klopp made a huge impact at Liverpool, bringing several talented players to the club over the years, with some being more successful than others.

Steve Nicol makes Darwin Nunez prediction under Arne Slot

One very exciting player that he did bring to Merseyside was Darwin Nunez, with the Uruguay international among the club’s most expensive signings following his £64million move from Benfica.

But the attacker has not exactly hit the heights expected of him, although former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol believes Nunez could finally come to life under Slot.

“With a new manager, you may see a different Nunez,” Nicol told ESPN. “There might be a slight change in the way they go forward which might help him, might suit him.

“He might start him at centre-forward, he might make a good start and score goals and off he goes.

“But again it’s a question mark, because so far Nunez has had good spells, but has probably had more bad spells than good spells.”

How has Darwin Nunez managed at Liverpool so far?

The forward has proven his blistering pace and ability to be in the right place at the right time with his clever runs time and again.

But his finishing leaves a lot to be desired, with the Uruguayan on 33 goals from his 96 appearances in red.

He has, however, linked up well with his fellow forwards, registering 17 assists, while his versatility in the final third also works in his favour.

Whether or not he can finally fulfil his clear potential under Slot remains to be seen, but the new manager should definitely work hard with the player in pre-season, with huge rewards on the cards next season.
