Report: Liverpool hoping to sign £52m star backed to become 'the best player in Europe'

Liverpool have a big summer ahead of them on the transfer front as the Arne Slot era begins at Anfield.

The Reds have appointed Slot to replace Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout, and have also made changes behind the scenes.

Richard Hughes will soon begin work as Liverpool’s sporting director, while Michael Edwards has become FSG’s CEO of Football.

Slot, Hughes and Edwards will look to maintain continuity in quality from the Klopp era and build on the foundations he has put in place.

As one of the Premier League’s top clubs, Liverpool are being linked with numerous world-class players ahead of the window opening.

Now, one report has claimed that the Reds are hoping to sign an attacker backed to potentially become “the best player in Europe”.

The player in question is Juventus forward and Italy international Federico Chiesa, a long-time target for Liverpool.

According to GiveMeSport, the Reds are keeping an eye on the 26-year-old’s contract situation at Juve ahead of crunch talks with the Serie A side.

The report claims Liverpool will be ‘hoping to snag him’ from Juve and, with his contract expiring in 2025, he may well decide to up sticks this summer.

Who is Liverpool target Federico Chiesa?

Chiesa came through the ranks at Fiorentina before joining Juve in 2020 on an initial loan deal and signing permanently in 2022.

The 26-year-old, who can play across the front line, has made 131 appearances for Juve, grabbing 34 goals and 25 assists.

This follows on from the £52million-rated man’s fruitful Viola spell, with 131 outings, 32 goals and 23 assists to his name.

Chiesa, who has been lauded as a ‘superstar‘ talent by some in the media, was also part of the Euro 2020-winning Italy squad.

Joe Cole said at the time, as quoted by Metro: “He’s hustling and bustling like a young Luis Suarez character. He can make something out of nothing.

“Every club in Europe will want a slice of him when he becomes available.”

Meanwhile, former Fiorentina and Italy boss Cesare Prandelli told La Nazione (via Goal.com) in 2020: “He must persevere and work in a single direction. I speak of the role, his role.

“Chiesa must specialise in what he feels is his natural tactical position. If he does this, he will become the best player in Europe.”

Chiesa is certainly on the right track to become one of Europe’s best, so let’s see whether he’ll be able to continue his development at Liverpool.
