Fabrizio Romano says Crystal Palace are now in talks to sign player who 'can go to the very top'

Crystal Palace enjoyed a bright end to the 2023/24 season as Oliver Glasner steered the Eagles to a top-half Premier League finish.

The Austrian has worked wonders at Selhurst Park since taking the reins in February as he made Palace more entertaining to watch and obtained some great results.

Now, with the transfer window edging ever closer, the Eagles have the opportunity to build some great foundations in Glasner’s first full season at Selhurst Park.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, Palace are currently in talks to bring one of the EFL’s most exciting youngsters to the club.

Romano took to X on Thursday to claim that the Eagles are trying to sign Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham.

The Italian says Bellingham is one of Palace’s priority targets for the summer, Glasner wants him, and Dougie Freedman is working to convince the player to pick the Eagles.

However, Brentford reportedly also want to sign the 18-year-old and it’s currently an open race for his services.

Crystal Palace would be getting star in the making in Jobe Bellingham

Crystal Palace have a great track record of signing top talents from the EFL and turning them into Premier League stars.

And considering how well Bellingham did for Sunderland this season, it’s surely only a matter of time before he’s playing in the top flight.

At just 18 years of age, Bellingham has clocked up 47 competitive senior appearances for the Black Cats, along with 26 for Birmingham City.

Sunderland caretaker manager Mike Dodds, who also coached both Bellingham brothers at Birmingham, believes Jobe can go as far as Jude in the game.

“He can go to the very top,” Dodds told The Sun earlier this season. “I’ve worked with a lot of young players and he would be up there with the very best.”
