Survivor issues ‘kindness’ statement

Survivor has issued a statement, urging their fans to “practice kindness” as “one of the best things about the Survivor community is the passion engagement and excitement around the show.”

Describing its contestants as “brave,” show bosses urged people to remember that “who you see on screen are real people navigating this experience,” asking them to embrace respect and compassion.

Although CBS did not explain the reason behind the statement, the show faced backlash when Maria Gonzalez voted for Kenzie Patty instead of her close ally, Charlie Davis, in recent days.

CBS show faced online backlash

The CBS show, like any reality series, saw fans tear apart the contestant’s decisions. Maria had told Charlie she regretted voting for Kenzie, according to him, and as a result, fans are not happy with her.

One Reddit user wrote: “My issue with Maria is that she was ready to turn on Charlie and thought she had that vote all lined up to get him out. She was just pissed that he got there first.”

Another said: “Maria’s actions weren’t that bad. I don’t like when jury members vote out of spite, but it happens all the time. What bugs me is she wanted people to believe she would have voted for Charlie.”

Fans respond to show warning

When CBS issued the kindness statement on their official Survivor Instagram page, fans felt they were “being told off”. One commented, “Did we all just get yelled at by CBS.”

Maria herself piped up and had her say. She told viewers, “We are real people with real lives who played a game. We can turn off social media but we can’t shut off our texts, voicemails, and close our businesses.

She addressed how “people disagree with something we’ve done,” but not all viewers are convinced. One fan commented, “Ohhhh please!!! Did Maria pull a Karen and complain to a Survivor manager?!?!”
