Report: Liverpool are keen on signing 'leader in the making' who scored nine PL goals this season

Liverpool are certain to be busy in the summer transfer window, with movement expected in both directions.

Jurgen Klopp spent wisely in order to build a successful squad at Anfield, with his successor needing to follow a similar route under owners FSG.

Arne Slot will be keen to analyse his current options on Merseyside, but at the same time may already have an eye on one or two new faces.

And one signing could come in the form of an attacker, with David Ornstein reporting that the Reds are looking for a new wide player.

They already boast plenty of talented options in that area, although the future of star winger Mohamed Salah is up in the air, with the Egyptian the number one target for the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool eye summer move for Bryan Mbeumo

If he does stay at Anfield, Salah would undoubtedly be the number one option on the right, but his minutes could be reduced should the Reds bring in a rival.

And that could be Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo, with Liverpool eyeing a summer move for the 24-year-old, according to L’Equipe.

He registered nine goals and six assists from his 27 Bees appearances last season, with Tony Cascarino impressed by the attacker’s ‘versatile’ nature, believing that he could be a good addition at Anfield if Salah was to move on.

What could Bryan Mbeumo bring to Liverpool?

As mentioned, the Cameroon international can play in various positions, namely at right wing and centre-forward.

He did miss a large chunk of the campaign due to an ankle injury, which also forced him to miss the Africa Cup of Nations.

But when available for Thomas Frank, Mbeumo was a real danger on and off the ball, and helped out massively up front during Ivan Toney’s lengthy suspension.

The Cameroonian then linked up expertly with the England man upon his return to the pitch, with Mbeumo’s pace, power and vision all key to another strong individual season.

The winger also boasts plenty of Premier League experience, with the Reds witnessing his goalscoring ability up close last season when he netted in Brentford’s 3-1 league win in January.

There is the added bonus of Mbeumo’s approach behind the scenes, which has previously been addressed by his current manager.

“I praised him a couple of weeks ago because he drives training with his attitude and work ethic and determination to want to get better and win,” said Frank, as per The Athletic. “He’s definitely a leader in the making.”
