Andrew Crawford the Green party candidate hoping to be the next MP for North East Cambridgeshire has lived or worked in Fenland for the past 30 years.
He currently lives in March, raised his family in the town, has three adult children locally, and has now retired from business and the workplace.
Andrew said: “Green Party thinking is to have local communities making the decisions which directly affect them. Fenland needs to stand up to the next government and speak on behalf of local people, and that is why I am standing for the Green Party.”
He continued: “It seems outrageous that the government can completely ignore the interests of local people when it comes to massive industrial development projects such as the Wisbech Incinerator and the fifty-acre science park at Whittlesey.
“While some development is necessary to create community employment and to offer genuinely affordable housing for local people, the downside of excessive expansion is more people coming to the area, more traffic, more pollution, a loss of biodiversity, and a further strain on the healthcare and education systems.
“March town has also had its own issues with the ongoing regeneration project. While most of us will agree that something needed to be done about the excessive traffic, road safety, and air pollution levels, we have had this scheme thrust upon us by central government funding and will end up with something which very few local people seem to want, and it is being done to accommodate yet more traffic from the new proposed housing estates.
The Green Party stands for the environment for climate change, and in the modern world that means using renewable energy, embracing solar and wind, reducing demand by insulating homes, enabling the phasing-out of fossil fuel and at the same time creating greener jobs and industry.
“We also stand for social justice, by ending poverty and providing healthcare and education for all. We stand for safer roads with a cheap and reliable public transport system where the use of active travel is treated as being important for health and well-being.”
