Report: Manchester United set to repeat 2023 move by hiring key man from Arsenal this summer

Manchester United have been on a role lately in recruiting some of the brightest minds this country has to offer, thanks to Ineos.

Ineos arrived at Manchester United only a few months ago, but already the impact they’ve made on the club is substantial.

The footballing side has been restructured almost completely with Dan Ashworth‘s arrival the final cog needed in the machine before it’ll be complete.

He would be joining the new setup which includes former Manchester City man Omar Berrada who will be the new CEO and also Southampton’s director of football Jason Wilcox.

But after the torrid season Erik ten Hag has just had, there is one area which desperately needs to be strengthened and now it seems United are making moves to do so.

Manchester United to steal Jordan Reece from Arsenal

Last summer, United made a swoop at Arsenal, taking Dr Gary O’Driscoll to the club in a bid to improve the fitness issues at the club.

It hasn’t quite come off just yet after injury problems plagued United for much of the campaign, but Ineos are now close to bringing respected physio Jordan Reece to Old Trafford.

According to a report by the Mirror, United have been trying to get Reece for months, with Dr O’Driscoll leading the charge having known Reece from their time at Arsenal.

Arsenal were desperate to keep him, however are now resigned to the fact they’ll be losing him to United in a coup which United view as a huge positive.

Reece has gained a reputation for working well with players and in particular his work helping Gabriel Jesus through long-term issues has been cited along with the claim that he’s regarded as one of the best in the game.

After the season United have just had, this is music to our ears.

How bad was the injury crisis at Manchester United

While the performances simply weren’t good enough for much of the campaign, the injury problems we assume played a huge role.

According to a BBC report which came last week following the finale of the Premier League, United suffered the most injuries in the league during the 2023/24 campaign with 45 separate cases recorded.

Research by the Premier Injuries website suggests that the total number of individual injuries for United was the highest they’d ever recorded over 20 years.

Through the season 21 players were injured and this amounted to a total of 1,620 days missed when tallied up. Lisandro Martinez is the worst having missed 214 days through three different injuries this season.

United were also one of only four clubs to have 11 players missing at one time, joining Newcastle United, Chelsea and Luton Town.
