Clearing up Scott Bain's contract situation at Celtic

Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain has spent most of his prime years in Glasgow since joining the club back in 2018 from Dundee.

Initially, he arrived on a loan deal during Brendan Rodgers’ first spell at Parkhead; however, that swiftly turned into a permanent agreement, and he has remained in Glasgow ever since, playing his part in the Bhoys’ domestic dominance.

Overall, Bain has made 78 appearances across all competitions for Celtic, keeping 40 clean sheets in the process [Transfermarkt].

Becoming a stable understudy under several different managers, he also helps the homegrown quota for European competitions alongside playing a key role within the wider goalkeeping group, as cited by Joe Hart.

Nevertheless, there has been some speculation over his contract situation, so let’s clear that up by exploring his current state of play.

Scott Bain’s contract situation at Celtic

According to Transfermarkt, Bain’s contract at Celtic is set to run out this summer, with no communication of any further time on his deal from the outlet.

However, by taking a look at the Hoops‘ official website, the 32-year-old is actually on terms that run until 2026 after signing an extension in May 2023.

On his player profile, the last segment reads: “The keeper who has been part of the recent title and cup winning squads of 2021/22 & 2022/23 signed a new three-year deal in May 2023 which will see him remain at Celtic Park until the summer of 2026.”

Despite murmurs to the contrary, unless Celtic put new information into the public domain that isn’t there already, Bain is still on the books for two more years in Glasgow.

Undoubtedly, the goalkeeper position is a major priority for Rodgers in the transfer window, and hopefully, he can bring in a high-calibre number one to replace retired icon Hart between the sticks.
