Mississippi State was inches away from securing a win over St. John’s in the bottom of the ninth inning. On Friday, the two teams were tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning in their Charlottesville Regional showdown.
Mississippi State senior Amani Larry stepped up to the plate, determined to will the Bulldogs to victory. Larry crushed a sinker toward the center field fence and began his celebratory trot around the bases, as his teammates erupted in the dugout.
However, before Larry could round first base, disaster struck. St. John’s outfielder Garrett Scavelli reached over the fence and hauled in Larry’s walk-off home run. MSU’s Logan Kohler struck out on the next play and the teams headed into extra innings.
