Report: Sporting CP now eyeing summer move for £11m Man City player, he’d be open to leaving

Sporting CP reportedly have their eyes on landing a summer transfer deal for a Manchester City player.

The Portuguese club were crowned league champions this season with 90 points on the board, 10 more than Benfica in second and 18 more than Porto in third.

Now that the next summer transfer window is set to open for business in the coming weeks, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding one particular City player Sporting have on their radar.

According to a recent report from O Jogo, Sporting are eyeing a summer transfer move for Sergio Gomez, who would apparently welcome a move away from City due to his lack of regular game time.

The report also adds that the Portuguese club will aim to strike a similar deal with City to the one they did for Pedro Porro back in 2020 where they signed the full-back on loan with an option to buy.

Gomez has found regular game time hard to find at City

Since joining the Manchester club back in the 2022 summer transfer window in a deal worth £11m, the Spaniard has made 38 appearances across all competitions.

Having started just 14 of those games, it’s easy to see why it has been suggested that the 23-year-old may be willing to leave City in an effort to get more game time.

In fact, this season saw the full-back play just 48 minutes of Premier League action across six substitute appearances against Fulham, West Ham United, Burnley, Aston Villa, Luton Town and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Looking ahead to the upcoming summer transfer window, if Gomez asks to leave City and the club feels they can manage without him in the squad, it could suit all parties if they work out a deal that would see the defender join Sporting.
