Sudbury and Haverhill Police urge parents to speak to children after reports of youths accessing Deplhi engineering site in Newton Road

Police have urged parents to speak to their children after receiving multiple reports of youths trying to access the site of a large factory blaze.

Nearly 20 fire crews were called to the scene as a blaze ripped throught the derelict 22-acre Delphi enginnering site unit in Newton Road, Sudbury, on Tuesday.

A 14-year old boy was later arrested on suspicion of arson in relation to the fire.

Sudbury and Haverhill Police posted on Facebook today emploring parents to educate their children on the dangers of entering the site as they continue to experience calls of juveniles getting onto it and causing damage.

The force expressed its sadness about the ‘mindless damage’ caused to the building, which was once a large employer in the town.

SuffolkNews revealed yesterday that the listed owners of the disued factory are Future Properties Holdings Ltd.

It acquired the site the year it closed in 2020, which had a value of £17,250,000 on October 4, 2022.

Community leaders, including South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge and Sudbury mayor Alison Owen, expressed their shock and dismay after the blaze.

An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
