Jose Mourinho aims dig at legendary Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger during Champions League final

Jose Mourinho aimed a humorous dig at Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger last night after the UEFA Champions League final.

The Portuguese manager was on the touchline at Wembley Stadium as Real Madrid claimed their 15th European title with a 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund, with Arsenal crashing out at the quarter-final stage of this year’s Champions League.

With club legend Wenger in attendance, it would have been poetic for Arsenal had Mikel Arteta managed to guide the north London side to the final this season with the showpiece event taking place just a few miles away from the Emirates Stadium.

And speaking post-match, Mourinho couldn’t help but lay a dig at Wenger.

Mourinho takes aim at Wenger over proposed offside rule change

Speaking on TNT Sports, Mourinho couldn’t resist taking aim at Wenger’s new proposed plan to change the offside rule, with the former Arsenal manager now a global advisor at FIFA.

Mourinho said after being told Wenger was also at Wembley last night for the final: “Ask him what he wants to do with the offside rule, oh my god man, let me go before, please, it’s time for me to go.”

With Gary Lineker agreeing that the proposed offside change could harm the game, Mourinho’s comment on Wenger last night might have hit a chord with some football fans even with how funny the delivery was.

Indeed, Wenger’s influence on the game has never been stronger in his new role at FIFA, yet for Mourinho, the former Arsenal man is still someone the Portuguese manager will take a dig at no matter the opportunity.

Mourinho and Wenger’s rivalry will never fully end

Even with Wenger no longer a manager and Mourinho’s stock as low as it has ever been, the rivalry between the two legends of football will never fully end given all that’s happened between the two.

Mourinho and Wenger’s rivalry on the touchline in the Premier League was as explosive as it was entertaining, with both sides pulling the punches needed to drive their legendary status in the game further.

And last night’s sly dig from Mourinho will not be the last we hear from these two, who at their ages will continue to go at one-another long after the Portuguese manager steps down from football for good.
