'I believe': When Inter Miami now think Diego Gomez will be back from injury

Tata Martino has given the latest update on when Diego Gomez could return to action for Inter Miami from injury.

The Paraguay international has been out of action for almost two months after Gomez suffered an ankle injury in Inter Miami’s 3-1 win against MLS rivals Nashville SC, with the youngster only recently returning to light training.

With Gomez reportedly wanted by the likes of Premier League side West Ham, the Inter Miami talent returning from injury this summer could be huge in the midfielder winning a deserved move to Europe, with the youngster in top form this season.

And Martino has now shared when the 21-year-old could be back in action for Inter Miami.

Gomez expected to return soon for Inter Miami but miss the Copa America

Speaking to the press after last night’s 3-3 draw against St. Louis City SC, Martino predicted Gomez to be back from injury soon, though there is a strong chance that the midfielder will miss the Copa America with Paraguay later this month.

Martino said when asked about the timeline of Gomez’s return from injury: “We have maintained close contact with the Paraguay national team. Diego this week has started running again on the treadmill and he has done a few minutes on the field in the last two days.

“But from my point of view, he is not in a position to participate in the Copa America. I know it is a decision that Paraguay will ultimately make, but I believe that Diego, at the pace he is going, won’t be fit enough.

“His recovery is just beginning, he suffered a major injury, and it will be up to the Paraguay national team to decide on selecting. a player with limited recovery time and to risk a setback in his recovery.”

Gomez returning this month from injury could be massive

Gomez has been one of Inter Miami’s best players this season, with the midfielder showing that he can ball with the best having established himself as a midfielder starter earlier on in the year.

And if the youngster was to return from injury this month, that would be nothing short of massive for Inter Miami, especially with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez away at the Copa America.

Indeed, Gomez’s impact in the midfielder could be big for Inter Miami if they’re to weather the upcoming storm this summer, and Martino’s update seems to suggest that the youngster will be back at some point this month.
