After Sesko, Arsenal must sign 'unbelievable' defender who could change everything for Arteta - opinion

Having reportedly submitted a bid for Benjamin Sesko, Arsenal’s summer transfer window is well underway, and as expected, Edu Gaspar is wasting no time.

Mikel Arteta is believed to have a shortlist that predominantly asks for a new striker, a new central midfielder and left-back to improve on his current options.

As stated, Arsenal have begun work on identifying a new striker, someone who can dovetail with Kai Havertz whilst not necessarily disrupting the German’s place in the side.

RB Leipzig’s Sesko seems the perfect profile in that regard, a 21-year-old who can learn on the sidelines whilst also able to impact games from the bench.

Of course, Arteta will hope that eventually becomes a position that is too small for the striker, who would only then prove as a ‘positive problem’.

In terms of finding a central midfielder it seems as if Arsenal are well on their way to, interested in Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes.

But judging by reports, the club are yet to identify the left-back on Arteta’s wishlist, a player who is more complete than Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Arsenal must attempt to hijack Real Madrid’s move for Alphonso Davies this summer

Finding a player as well-rounded as Ben White to play on Arsenal’s left hand side is no easy task, there are few very complete left-backs in the game right now.

But with reports that Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies could be available this summer amid links to Real Madrid, Arsenal should be proving their ambition.

Davies is in a very small group of elite left-backs right now, alongside the likes of Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde and AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez.

That being said, Balde is still young and Hernandez lacks defensively – something that couldn’t be levied at Davies.

Often displaying his ‘unbelievable’ levels in the Champions League, Arsenal should be testing the waters, particularly in a summer in which Bayern are said to want Zinchenko.

Bayern Munich’s interest in Oleksandr Zinchenko could inspire swap deal

Could Arsenal pull-off one of the most audacious swap deals in recent history?

They’ve certainly got past experience, remembering Henrikh Mkhitayran and Alexis Sanchez swapping places in the Premier League.

Davies doesn’t typically invert into midfield at Bayern right now, but it would certainly be viable for a player of his echelon.

As of this summer, Davies will only have one year left on his Bayern contract, meaning a deal isn’t completely unrealistic either.

It would certainly take some convincing by Arteta and his team – but this project does have sufficient pull.

That being said, Arsenal should now also be considering a move for the best young English talent since Declan Rice.
