Report: Arne Slot has already discussed signing 'superstar' £30m striker with Liverpool's board

Arne Slot is looking to make a big impact as new Liverpool manager and it looks like he’s already picked out a few targets.

The Dutchman is now officially in charge of the club after landing the job of replacing Jurgen Klopp and he’s already looking to get to work it seems.

So far, a number of players are being linked with moves to Liverpool. With Michael Edwards returning and Richard Hughes onboard, there’s a feeling it might be a busy summer.

New players will be on the agenda for Slot as well as he looks to make his mark.

And according to reports this weekend, he’s already discussed one striker with the Liverpool board.

Arne Slot brings up Santiago Gimenez in discussions with Liverpool’s board

According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Slot has had initial meetings with the Liverpool higher ups about potential targets.

And when discussing those targets, the name of Santiago Gimenez has come up.

Gimenez has been the shining light at Feyenoord in Slot’s time with the club and has hit more than 20 goals in each of the last two seasons.

This report follows information from Friday that Gimenez has now decided a move to England is what he wants, with Tottenham among the clubs keen on him.

Liverpool, though, could hold the advantage with Slot now in charge.

Gimenez brings goals but relatively unproven

Despite being praised as a player with ‘superstar‘ potential and scoring plenty of goals, there will still be question marks over signing Gimenez at Liverpool.

The first question will come in the form of is it just someone Slot knows well and wants to bring in.

Given the FSG strategy, Slot is unlikely to get the final say really.

The other problem is that while Gimenez has scored goals, the Eredivisie is a different beast to the Premier League and there’d be a nagging doubt he might not step up.

Still, at just £30m, he might be a signing worth making for the Reds and with Darwin Nunez struggling a touch, a new forward might just lift the whole club.
