'I will be supporting'... Loanee sends message to club's fans ahead of expected Manchester United release

Once touted as a future Manchester United and England defender, Brandon Williams is heading towards a career crossroads.

Brandon Williams has become one of Manchester United’s forgotten men, after a troubled couple of seasons.

Williams missed almost the entirety of 2022/23 with injury, and then was sent out on loan to Ipswich Town at the start of this campaign.

He began promisingly for Kieran McKenna’s side, before injury struck again, and he did not play a single match in 2024.

Brandon Williams sends message to Ipswich Town fans

Brandon Williams’ loan spell is now over and he is proud of his contribution to Ipswich Town’s season.

He played 17 games, 10 as a starter, with his final appearance coming in a 0-0 draw against QPR on December 29.

Now, Williams has expressed his gratitude towards the club and wished them well for the future.

He wrote on Instagram: “IPSWICH TOWN it was a Privilege to play for this club💙 Thank you for all the support from everybody associated within the club and outside ! Good luck next season I will be supporting Uppa the tractor boys.”

Manchester United release expected

Brandon Williams is out of contract on June 30 and his release from Manchester United is expected to be a formality.

The 23-year-old has not been part of Manchester United’s first team plans for a while, spending a season on loan at Norwich City prior to the past two injury-hit campaigns.

The Telegraph reported Williams was one of three players who will be released at the end of June, saving a total of £600,000 per week in wages.

The other two players are the more highly paid Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial, who have both formally confirmed their departures.

Williams will soon likely announce his own exit, if the club don’t beat him to it, and begin the process of trying to find a new side as a free agent.
