Aston Villa risk losing ground in race to sign ‘sensational’ £30m target amid PSR concerns

Aston Villa have now learned the summer plans of one potential transfer target, it could be bad news.

As the 2024 summer transfer window fast approaches, Unai Emery and Monchi will be working hard to deliver new faces to Villa Park.

Having secured Champions League football thanks to their fourth-place finish in the 2023/24 Premier League, Aston Villa will be hopeful of attracting top talent in the market.

That being said, the Villans won’t have total control over their list of targets due to PSR concerns, which could prove to be a problem when it comes to one deal.

Crysencio Summerville transfer plans made clear amid Aston Villa interest

Aston Villa have been linked to Crysencio Summerville, with the Dutchman’s future clarified after Leeds United failed to secure promotion.

A recent report via the Mirror has now outlined a factor of Summerville’s future that could ruin the Midlands club’s plans of signing him this summer.

Leeds could now sell the 22-year-old before June 30th when the club will submit their financial records, which could hinder Villa’s pursuit.

Due to Villa’s own PSR concerns, The Athletic concluded that the club may find themselves in a sell-to-buy situation this summer, making a deal for Summerville difficult to manoeuvre with such deadline.

The Mirror’s report claims that the Championship Player of the Season is valued at ‘around £30m’ yet despite his low cost, the date of a possible sale may not work for Emery and Monchi.

With the sell-to-buy aspect in mind, it could be considered unlikely that Villa would orchestrate a move for the Dutchman by the end of June unless a player is offloaded early.

Villa will not want to lose ground in the transfer race for Summerville

As expected, many clubs are eyeing Summerville’s movements ahead of the opening of the transfer window, making the race for the winger well-contested.

To obtain a forward with Premier League experience and 31 goal contributions in 2023/24, via Transfermarkt, for such a low price is rare and Villa must not lose ground in the race.

While it may now be difficult for the Midlands club to make an offer to Leeds before the 30th June due to PSR concerns, it’s not impossible.

Summerville’s Championship season was lauded as ‘sensational’ by talent scout Jacek Kulig, who detailed just how much of an impact the winger had on Leeds’ road to the Play-Off Final.

A talent as young and dynamic as the winger could be fundamental to Emery’s squad going into the new campaign, with added depth and competition needed ahead of their Champions League journey.

It will be particularly interesting to see if Villa consider the possible deadline for Summerville a hindrance, in what is poised to be a fascinating summer for all clubs.
