Monchi hopes of sealing ‘outstanding’ Aston Villa transfer boosted by Leeds United failure

Aston Villa may have been handed a boost in their pursuit of one rumoured target this summer, with one eye on last week’s Championship Play-Off final.

Following the highs that Unai Emery led his Aston Villa side to over the 2023/24 campaign, the Spaniard will now be eager to strengthen once more in the transfer window.

A fourth-place finish, Champions League qualification and reaching the Europa Conference League semi-final saw last term become one to cherish for Villa, who are thriving under Emery’s guidance.

While the 2023/24 season should be celebrated, hard work must also soon begin in the transfer window, with depth and added quality needed to sustain Villa’s progression beyond the summer.

Several possible targets that could improve the current squad have surfaced, one of which being Crysencio Summerville, who Monchi could now be at an advantage to sign.

Aston Villa chances of signing Crysencio Summerville could now be greater

Ahead of the January transfer window, Fabrizio Romano noted Villa’s interest in Summerville, claiming that the Villans were ‘tracking’ him despite Leeds having no desire to sell the winger.

Last month, HITC journalist Graeme Bailey exclusively told Aston Villa News that Emery’s interest in the Dutchman could hang on Leeds’ bid for promotion, stating that the forward could remain with the Whites if they sealed a Premier League spot.

Rumoured to be valued by Daniel Farke’s side at around £34m, Summerville could be an affordable option for Emery to home in on, as Leeds will remain in the Championship next term.

The 22-year-old may want to move onto bigger things having seemingly outgrown the second tier after being named the league’s Player of the Season, with Villa presenting the perfect opportunity for him to spread his wings.

Crysencio Summerville could thrive under Unai Emery

Lauded as ‘outstanding’ by his manager for his 21-goal season for Leeds in 2023/24, Summerville has what it takes to be a star signing for Villa.

Given the winger’s age, talent and numbers, a price such as £34m is rather low for a player of his calibre.

Now, Villa must capitalise on Leeds’ failure to win promotion and dive in for Summerville, who has shown his capability playing in both the Championship and the Premier League, where he scored four goals in his breakthrough season.

For Emery, signing a winger as dynamic and versatile as the Dutchman should come as an exciting prospect, particularly when considering Villa’s lack of depth when it comes to traditional wide players.

Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby currently stand alone in that area, with the manager utilising Diaby more centrally to reinforce the need for wingers this summer.

Another element of the 22-year-old’s career that may tempt Emery and Monchi to make contact is his injury record, having only missed two games in the Championship due to injury over the campaign.

With interest expected to pour in for the Leeds dynamo, Villa must grasp the opportunity to offer Summerville a way out of playing in the Championship for another year.
