‘From day one’: Enzo Maresca is planning system change at Chelsea, Enzo Fernandez is key to it – journalist

Enzo Maresca’s style of play is something that was no doubt taken under immense consideration as he looked to make himself the new Chelsea manager in the interview process.

Having won the league with arguably the best team in the Championship last season, he will have been able to play a way that dominated most fixtures.

He seemed to get a lot out of his wingers at Leicester City, which could spell good news for the likes of Noni Madueke, who enjoyed a strong end to the season.

It could also mean the Blues look at this particular market to strengthen this summer. Michael Olise has been frequently mentioned as a target to come to Stamford Bridge.

Twitter page CFCPys shared that journalist Gaston Edul claimed that the incoming boss already has a plan in place for his new side, and midfielder Enzo Fernandez is going to be crucial for it.

He said: “Enzo Maresca wants Enzo Fernandez at pre-season, he needs him from day one as he’s planning a system change. Chelsea do not want him to go Olympics.”

Fernandez key to Maresca

It was reported when he emerged as the top candidate that Maresca had impressed with his plans to get the best out of the World Cup winner, something which many are still waiting to happen since his move.

An upturn in performances could be huge for Chelsea’s prospects after seeing the improvements made by Moises Caicedo in the latter half of the season. Few midfielders were performing at a higher level than the Ecuadorian.

While not granting Fernandez his wish of competing at the Olympics this summer has the risk of angering the player, the Blues do need to begin to prioritise their own ambitions and potentially be a bit selfish in order to give the incoming head coach the best possible chance at success.
