'It's the first time': Kieran Trippier shares what's surprised him about Cole Palmer while on England duty

Kieran Trippier has been speaking about Chelsea star Cole Palmer ahead of England’s friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Kieran Trippier, Newcastle United’s vice-captain, and Cole Palmer have both been included in England’s preliminary squad for Euro 2024.

The latter’s inclusion is definitely warranted after the season he has had.

Palmer was one of the best players in the Premier League. The attacker scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists in 33 games for Chelsea.

He was recently praised by former Arsenal man Adrian Clarke for his ball-carrying ability.

Palmer has proven this season that he can score goals and create them.

After training with Palmer for the first time last week, though, Trippier says what has really surprised him about the 22-year-old is how well he finds pockets of space on the pitch.

Speaking to talkSPORT over the weekend, the former Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur defender said: “It’s the first time I’ve trained with Cole; he’s really surprised me — a top-quality player.

“It’s just how he finds the pockets [of space]. His awareness for where other people are and how clever he is for such a young age.

“It’s the first time I’ve trained with him this week, I am really happy that I’ve trained with him, he’s been quality.”

Should Cole Palmer start against Bosnia and Herzegovina?

Palmer only has two caps for England, winning his first back in November.

This could be a good opportunity for him, then, to start developing relationships with some of his teammates on the pitch ahead of Euro 2024.

After the campaign Palmer has had, there is no chance of Gareth Southgate sending him home.

He finished the season in strong form, producing four goal contributions in his last four matches, so is someone who Southgate may decide to turn to when the Three Lions take on Serbia on June 16.

To get the former Manchester City man ready, Southgate should start him at St James’ Park when England host Bosnia and Herzegovina.
