'The big threat': Journalist names the club who he thinks could pay Bruno Guimaraes' £100m release clause

Newcastle United fans are waiting nervously to see if anyone activates Bruno Guimaraes’ release clause.

It is make or break time for Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle United this summer, with suitors having a window of opportunity to sign him for £100million. His release clause is only available for a limited period of time, which could help the Magpies keep the 26-year-old at St James’ Park.

He is certainly a man in demand, and it is no surprise after the season he just had. During a difficult year for Newcastle, Bruno was absolutely outstanding.

That is why Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in signing him, despite being unwilling to activate his release clause. The Gunners reportedly think they can get him for less later in the summer, while Pep Guardiola’s side are unsure if he really is worth a nine-figure sum.

How Newcastle United feel about keeping Bruno Guimaraes as PSG linger

That leaves Newcastle in a position of strength, as HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that the Magpies have no interest in negotiating Bruno’s exit this summer.

A club will have to activate his £100million release clause to get him, and Bailey believes that Paris Saint-Germain are the ‘big threat’ to watch out for.

“Newcastle are not welcoming interest in Bruno, but they can’t stop it if someone pays his release clause,” he said.

“I still think PSG are the big threat. Do they pay £100million? You wouldn’t rule it out.

“Newcastle are very confident that Bruno Guimaraes will be at St James’ Park next season, but without European football, that’s another slight issue.”

Arsenal can afford Bruno

Bailey believes that Toon fans should be wary of PSG. They have certainly been fans of him in the past, and were frustrated that they squandered the chance to sign him before Newcastle got their hands on the Brazilian.

The Ligue 1 giants also saw firsthand how good he is earlier this season, as Bruno put on an absolute clinic against them in the Champions League at St James’ Park. The Brazilian was exceptional that night, proving he really is a world class talent.

That is why so many big clubs would love to have Bruno in their team, and that includes Arsenal. They are in the market for a midfielder, and have also been trying to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.

However, Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that the 25-year-old is not interested in a move to the Emirates, and has pondered whether that could impact Arsenal’s stance over Bruno.

“Zubimendi is the one who Arsenal want, but he’s showing no inclination to get the deal done.

“Does that have a knock-on effect on Bruno? Possibly, never say never.

“We know they like Bruno, and they are going to be well oiled with money this summer. They’ve already got a pretty big war-chest, and then they will be selling Emile Smith-Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, Albert Sambi Lakonga and Thomas Partey.

“I don’t think Arsenal will pay Bruno’s release clause, but they could if they wanted to.”
