Report: How agents are feeling about Bruno Guimaraes and Newcastle this summer

Newcastle United are at risk of losing one of their key players this summer.

While there is a hope that Bruno Guimaraes will stay at the club for at least one more season, Newcastle do not have the midfielder’s future in their own hands.

Indeed, Guimaraes has a release clause worth around £100m in his contract, which is believed to be active until the end of June.

As happy as he says he is at St James’ Park, the fact is that the club would be powerless to stop him leaving should an interested party stump up that kind of cash.

Manchester City have most recently been linked with a move for the 26-year-old, while Arsenal have been credited with an interest.

Now, some insight into what his agents really think about the matter has emerged.

That’s natural of course and has already begun, such is his standing in the game.

However, it’s also claimed that there are no early indications that a club will come in and spend the cash required to activate the clause.

Sources close to his camp are believed to be relaxed about the situation and Eddie Howe is thought to be expecting him to return for pre-season.

Missing out on Europe won’t impact Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle

No matter the positive noises coming out about Guimaraes potentially staying on Tyneside, it’s hard to get fully excited just by the nature of a release clause.

However, it would have been gutting if the player was looking for pastures new after a difficult season for Newcastle.

Denied entry into European competition by Manchester United winning the FA Cup, missing out on Europe is not believed to be likely to have any material impact on Guimaraes and his future at Newcastle.

That’s something, at least…
