TikTok's latest 'salad' trend isn't for the faint-hearted or those lacking a sweet tooth

The creative salad depicted in TikTok’s latest trend isn’t necessarily as healthy as the regular ones. Still, it has grown to become one of the biggest challenges by garnering hundreds and millions of views.

The video-sharing platform isn’t new to food-related trends. Unlike the Rock, Paper, Scissors food challenge on TikTok which saw people burn calories while binging on their favorite food, the ‘Candy Salad’ trend gives a sugar rush by just looking at it.

‘Candy Salad’ takes over TikTok

‘Candy Salad’ is the latest TikTok trend created by sweet tooths for viewers with sweet tooth. If you thought it was soothing to watch candy making, then you haven’t witnessed users coming together in large numbers to create the viral Candy Salad.

The challenge is simple and fun. Each member of the challenge gets to pick a candy of their choice, which needs to be added into a bowl placed before the camera when it’s their turn.

Typically, the participants stand in long queues holding different candies, without letting others know about their pick. When it’s their turn, they introduce themselves and reveal the candy they’ve selected for the salad – ready to serve once everybody finishes adding their favorites.

Most of the viral videos show humongous glass bowls full of colorful and flavorful candies, gathering funny reactions from the participants.

Even though Candy Salad looks mouth-watering, the random choice of candies in the same bowl makes some users cringe. Furthermore, it’s almost impossible to eat a huge amount of candies in one go, and they may turn hard or spoil once removed from the packaging if not well-preserved.

Viral trend is met with mixed reactions

Candy lovers are strongly opinionated, there’s no debating about it. Some users couldn’t stand mixing Skittles with sour patch sticks, and a few others said they would do anything to taste viral Candy Salad.

“ok dollar store candy is acceptable but the fun-size Skittles are criminal,” commented one. Another added: “Twizzlers and gummy fish ruined it for me personally”

But the ones who loved the idea aren’t getting enough of the trend. When one user commented: “At the beginning I was like, nah they can’t eat that, and now I’m dumping all my sours into a box.”

Another added: “My mouth is watering.” A third user said: “Just when I thought a perfect Candy Salad doesn’t exist, TikTok surprises me.”
