Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority £1 Tiger Bus Pass Receives over 2,500 applications in first week of launch

More than 2,500 young people have already applied for a ‘Tiger’ bus pass giving them access to cheap fares as part of a new initiative.

The scheme aimed at under-25s in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough was launched last week as part of the Combined Authority’s work to revamp public transport in the region.

The £1 fares are aimed at helping young people get around the region more affordably, to places of education and training, jobs, shopping, seeing friends and family, and more.

More than 2,500 young people have already applied for a ‘Tiger’ bus pass giving them access to cheap fares as part of a new initiative.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority has been delighted by the response to the Mayor’s £1 bus fare initiative with over 2,500 applications received and more than 1,100 Tiger bus pass cards printed to date.

The £1 Tiger bus pass offers young people more affordable travel options to places of education and training, jobs, shopping, social visits, and more. This initiative is a key part of the Combined Authority’s efforts to improve the local bus network.

"We are incredibly proud of the enthusiastic response to the Tiger bus pass,” said Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

"With over 2,500 applications and more than 1,100 cards already in the hands of our young residents, we are making a tangible impact on their ability to access education, work, and leisure activities affordably. We look forward to seeing even more young people take advantage of this fantastic opportunity."

The Tiger bus pass can be used with nearly all operators throughout the entire combined authority region of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, including Stagecoach, Whippet, Dews, A2B, Stephensons, FACT, Star Travel, and First.

The only bus operators currently not participating in this scheme are Vectare and Delaine. Details of where the bus pass can be used, including a map of the region, can be found here.

Applying for the pass is totally free of charge. All applicants need is a photo and proof of age. The passes are simply shown to the bus driver when boarding to claim the £1 fare. Individuals without the pass will not be able to benefit from the discounted fare.

Announced earlier this year, the Mayor’s £1 fare and the Tiger brand represent the first phase of a comprehensive package of improvements to the bus network by the Combined Authority.

This includes 30 new or improved bus routes, informed by suggestions from residents who participated in the December bus survey.

The Combined Authority is keen to see the Tiger card in use! Share your experiences on social media with the hashtag #tigerbuspass. Whether you’re commuting to school, heading to your job, or exploring the region, snap a photo of your journey with your Tiger pass and post it online.
