Chelsea fans are all left divided as Enzo Maresca officially becomes head coach, uncertainty looms

Chelsea have today announced the appointment of former Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca as their new head coach.

Maresca has signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with the West London club holding an option to extend the deal by another year.

As reported earlier on The Chelsea Chronicle, Maresca said: “To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach. It is why I am so excited by this opportunity.

“I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud.”

And, it would appear that most Blues fans are divided to see the Italian take charge.

As to be expected, a section of the Chelsea fanbase are not so sure about Maresca’s appointment, with his lack of experience seemingly cause for concern.

The 44-year-old’s only previous managerial jobs were with Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, Italian side Parma and Leicester in the Championship.

One supporter said: ‘I can’t remember a Chelsea manager arriving to less excitement or having more to prove. Chelsea and Enzo Maresca both have a lot of answers to provide.’

Another added: ‘I need Enzo Maresca to prove me wrong so bad, just like Cole Palmer did.’

Maresca’s first game in charge of Chelsea will be a pre-season friendly against Wrexham on July 25 in California.
