Aston Villa set for genius summer transfer window according to Football Manager

Football Manager 2024 predicts Aston Villa’s upcoming summer transfer window for the 2024/25 campaign.

Villa have a big opportunity this summer. After successfully qualifying for the Champions League, the club can now build upon their achievements.

Unai Emery and Monchi have done a fantastic job thus far in the transfer market with signings such as Morgan Rogers and Pau Torres providing a big boost.

However, one factor that could be a big issue is FFP. The club may well be restricted on how much they could spend, with the departure of one big name possible. Douglas Luiz has often been the player tipped to leave Villa.

As a result, this article takes a look at what this summer could have installed for the Villa Park faithful according to the simulation game Football Manager 2024.

By simulating all the way to the end of the window, we can see which major players the AI decided to bring into the club and who departed.

Starting off the list, Villa took a gamble as they brought in potential future star, Alex Calvo. The 20-year-old winger currently plays in Spain for FC Andorra in the second tier.

Playing mainly on the right side, Calvo suits the profile of Villa, with him being a young, upcoming talent, much like Morgan Rogers.

A departure which has already been confirmed. Outcast Morgan Sanson earned a move to Nice this summer after a successful loan move to the French club.

On Football Manager, the midfielder repeated this feat moving permanently for £3.4 million at the end of the loan deal.

One of many genius moves the AI made during the window. Villa managed to acquire the services of Bournemouth attacker David Brooks on an initial loan before purchasing him for £16.25 million.

The Welshman has been returning to form in real life after he recovered from cancer. The 2023/24 campaign was his first full season back, and he spent the latter half helping Southampton achieve promotion.

A player that many of the Villa Park faithful will happily see leave this summer, Matty Cash was highly inconsistent in 2024.

This resulted in calls for Cash to be sold despite him playing a crucial role in reaching Champions League football.

On Football Manager, fans get this wish, as the right-back was shipped off to Juventus on loan before the Italian side purchased him for £12.25 million.

Another sensational deal. Villa managed to bring in Oliver Skipp from Spurs on loan with the option to buy for just £7 million.

The midfielder is considered a great talent and has become an important player at Tottenham over recent years.

However, the AI managed to secure one of the best deals of the summer when it brought in Skipp for such a low price.

Villa managed to sell another outcast in the summer in Leander Dondoncker. The Belgian midfielder spent the second half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan to Napoli. However, he has done little to impress, with Dendoncker looking set to return to Villa Park.

On Football Manager, the midfielder also failed to secure a permanent move to Napoli. However, he did manage to return to Italy as Villa accepted a £6.75 million fee from Genoa.

The final major incoming of the window was Barcelona defender Sergino Dest. Like many on this list, Villa agreed to a loan deal with the Spanish giants before purchasing him for £11 million.

The American has spent the past few seasons out on loan, most recently at PSV where he won the league.

Villa are reportedly interested in Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo meaning business could well be done with the Catalans this summer.

Out – Lucas Digne

The final Villa departure is perhaps an odd one. Left-back Lucas Digne departed Villa on loan to Premier League rivals West Ham. The Frenchman’s stay eventually became permanent at £3 million.

It is rather a bizarre fee given Digne’s experience and first-team ability and it is unlikely that this would ever happen in real life.
