Report: Enzo Maresca could make £20m relegated player his first signing at Chelsea

Enzo Maresca could make a relegated Premier League player his first signing at Chelsea this summer, according to a recent report.

Maresca is set to take the reigns at Stamford Bridge following Mauricio Pochettino’s surprise dismissal.

The incoming Leicester City boss will be eager to add new profiles to his squad to fit his Pep Guardiola-esque style of play.

That said, it seems he’s got his eye on a £20m-rated centre-back.

Chelsea eyeing Anel Ahmedhodzic

According to The Mirror, via The Standard, Chelsea are eyeing a move for Sheffield United centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign in the Championship but struggled to replicate the same heights in the Premier League last term.

Despite that, Atalanta and Napoli are also said to be monitoring him ahead of the summer transfer window.

United are expected to move him on following their relegation and are looking for a fee of around £20m for his signature.

Chelsea should look elsewhere

Chelsea should be looking elsewhere as Ahmedhodzic still has a lot to prove at Premier League level, so a £20m fee seems hefty.

With Tosin set to sign, a centre-back isn’t really a priority position and funds should be allocated elsewhere, particularly at left-back and upfront.

A striker will require a sizable sum to be outlaid, so that should be the main focus for now, before considering left-backs and perhaps wide players.

Ivan Toney has long been mooted with a move to Stamford Bridge and fits the profile of a Maresca striker.
