Yet another Luis Guilherme twist as BBC reporter makes major new West Ham transfer claim

To say that the Luis Guilherme to West Ham United transfer saga has had more twists and turns than a snake with an itch is an understatement.

West Ham first moved into place to sign the Palmeiras winger for an apparent £21 million back at the end of May.

The Hammers deal to sign Luis Guilherme then supposedly dramatically collapsed, after the Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg claimed the teenager’s wage demands were proving to be problematic.

Julen Lopetegui is clearly desperate to bolster his ranks at the London Stadium in pretty much every single department before the start of the new season.

So he would have been incredibly frustrated with the club’s failure to get any signings done just yet.

Remember a deal for Brazilian defender Bruno has already fallen through this summer.

Now though, there seems to be more news regarding the Guilherme transfer, and it’s completely different information yet again…

Luis Guilherme twist as BBC reporter makes new West Ham claim

It has to be said, does anybody genuinely know or truly understand what’s going on with this transfer saga?

It seems like people are just guessing right now, and jumping on the bandwagon.

Yet more contrasting news has emerged now regarding the deal to bring Guilherme to the London Stadium.

This time, the claim seems to have more veracity.

BBC reporter Simon Stone claims that the Hammers are now closing in on a deal to sign the 18-year-old Brazilian.

Stone said in his report, “Despite rumours the attempt to sign Guilherme was in danger of being called off, sources have told BBC Sport it is now almost done.”

If the deal gets done for the Palmeiras starlet, he would be Lopetegui’s first signing at the London Stadium.

There may be some West Ham fans out there questioning whether Guilherme is good enough to play in the Premier League.

The bottom line is that he is completely unproven right now. He has incredible talent and potential but whether or not he will reach the very highest level is still very much debatable.

The Hammers scouting network have clearly seen something they like about the South American attacker though…

Everything you need to know about Luis Guilherme

The teenager was born in Aracaju on the east coast of Brazil in 2006.

Guilherme has been with Palmeiras since he was just 11, and has progressed through the ranks at rapid speed.

The 18-year-old is a left-footed right winger by trade but can also play on the left, or in the number 10 position.

Guilherme is technically brilliant, as most Brazilians are, and plays with a real kind of fearlessness that makes him so unpredictable.

The Palmeiras winger is at his best when cutting inside from the right onto his favoured left foot, and that means that he’ll provide proper competition and cover for Jarrod Bowen.

He has been described as the new ‘Ronaldinho’ (Yahoo) – that’s quite the praise. isn’t it. The Brazilian legend is one of the greatest players to have ever walked the planet.

If West Ham manage to sign Luis Guilherme this summer, it will be a huge statement of intent in my eyes, in spite of his obvious lack of experience.

There’s no doubt about it that £25 million represents a big risk for the Hammers though. We will all just have to trust Tim Steidten’s eye for a player won’t we.
