Report: Premier League giants have now 'made contact' over a deal for in-demand Sunderland gem

Tottenham Hotspur have now ‘made contact’ with Sunderland over a deal for the in-demand star.

Sunderland don’t seem to be getting any closer to appointing a new manager, which becomes more concerning as they close in on the transfer window.

The Black Cats are unlikely to bring in any new faces until after a head coach has been named, but that won’t stop other teams from trying to snatch their own players.

Jack Clarke’s exit seems almost guaranteed, but it will instead just be about getting a decent fee for the winger.

The likes of Pierre Ekwah, Trai Hume, Dan Ballard and Dan Neil have all been linked with moves to the Premier League, but it has so far just remained as interest.

Jobe Bellingham’s future on Wearside is growing doubtful though, with recent reports claiming Brentford and Crystal Palace are eager to snap him up.

While the Eagles are said to be already in talks over a move, it is believed Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is desperate to keep hold of him, but would only consider a fee of over £20 million.

Tottenham make contact with Sunderland over Jobe deal

The competition for Jobe’s signature is only getting bigger though, with TEAMtalk now reporting that Tottenham Hotspur have also ‘made contact’ with the Black Cats.

Ange Postecoglou’s side would reportedly become favourites to sign the 18-year-old if they were to launch a suitable offer for him this summer.

Spurs have now made Jobe a ‘key target’ and could submit a bid for his services in the coming months.

Tottenham are said to be keen on a midfielder similar to Jobe, though it would be extremely surprising if he was to get much game-time in the English capital.

The teenager could have Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Yves Bissouma, James Maddison, Giovani Lo Celso, Pape Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur to compete with for a place in the first-team squad.

It seems more likely that he could join the U21s or even be sent straight out on loan.

Bellingham’s career could go backwards if he joins Spurs

While a move to Tottenham could be tempting, Jobe surely knows it wouldn’t be a very good idea as it would stint his development as a senior footballer.

The youngster has already matured a lot at the Stadium of Light and should enjoy another season as a key player for Sunderland before he decides to make the jump up to the Premier League.

It would be surprising if Spurs were willing to cough up more than £20m this summer anyway, with Jobe potentially costing the same amount that Borussia Dortmund paid for Jude four years ago.
