Report: Chelsea have decided that 'elite' £55m player is their number one target for Enzo Maresca this summer

Having now announced Enzo Maresca’s appointment, Chelsea have established their number one transfer target for the coming summer.

It promises to be a busy summer for Maresca and Chelsea, who will likely see another influx of new players, similar to Mauricio Pochettino experienced last.

Although, things should be slightly calmer in that regard, with Chelsea perhaps only targeting four or five signings.

As is often the case at Stamford Bridge, signing a new striker is a priority – given Nicolas Jackson is still improving in England.

Tosin Adarabioyo, who chose a move to Chelsea over Newcastle United, should replace Thiago Silva at centre-back, a player who Maresca has previous knowledge of at Manchester City.

And then the former Leicester City manager is thought to also want to add a sweeper-keeper and a new left-back.

FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa has been highlighted as an option for Chelsea, someone who was considered during Graham Potter’s regime.

But via a new report by The Athletic, Chelsea have now outlined their number one priority.

Chelsea want to sign RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko to ignite Enzo Maresca era

According to The Athletic, signing RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko will be the focus of Chelsea’s window.

The club were previously linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, but neither his costly release clause or playing style are thought to be ideal for Maresca’s project.

Sesko, on the other hand, is thought to be a good fit, who currently has a release clause of around £55m.

The ‘elite’ Bundesliga striker is also of interest to Arsenal as well, who are thought to have already submitted a bid for Sesko via some reports.

And whilst Sesko does seem ready for a move to the Premier League, the 21-year-old isn’t quite the finished package just yet.

Perhaps Chelsea imagine that Sesko can dovetail with Jackson, a partnership who can improve alongside one another.

However, there will be fans that believe that the club needs a ready-made option, given how young Chelsea’s squad already is.

But in line with Chelsea’s current transfer strategy, that seems unlikely to be the case.

All that being said, it has now been shared how this current Chelsea squad feels about Enzo Maresca’s appointment.
