Report: Liverpool and Tottenham make contact to sign £20m player compared to Eden Hazard, he wants to leave

Liverpool and Tottenham have now both made contact to sign a mercurial talent likened to Eden Hazard.

Ange Postecoglou seems very keen to bring a new forward to N17 this summer, amid links to Nottingham Forest No.14 Callum Hudson-Odoi.

In regards to Liverpool, Arne Slot may need a replacement for Luis Diaz, who could depart Anfield.

Now, both Liverpool and Tottenham have made a move for the same player…

Liverpool and Tottenham submit Rayan Cherki enquiry

An update from Sports Zone now states that Liverpool and Tottenham have made contact with Lyon over a deal to sign Rayan Cherki.

It is said that the France U23 international wants to leave Lyon this summer, with PSG also interested.

A story from another French news outlet in Jeunes Footeux shed some light on what sort of price tag Cherki would hold this summer, with only 12 months remaining on his contract at Lyon.

It was said that a sum of €24m (£20m) would be enough to secure the 20-year-old’s signature this summer, which could well prove to be a bargain given his immense potential.

Frenchman has been compared to Eden Hazard

As aforesaid, Cherki has been likened to Hazard.

It was Rudi Garcia – the Frenchman’s old boss at Lyon – who made the claim, while also comparing his superstar potential to that of Steven Gerrard as well.

Goal quote the 60-year-old as saying: “Gerard Houllier had this with Steven Gerrard, who he started at 17 years old.

“He played 15 games, then 25 and then started to play whole seasons. I had the same with Eden Hazard at Lille.”

Cherki certainly appears to be a natural talent, having played pretty much all across the frontline for Lyon in the 2023/24 campaign.

As seen on the Lyon No.18’s Transfermarkt page, he made three appearances on the left, eight on the right, ten in a central attacking midfield role and even one outing as a striker.

Cherki scored three goals and provided nine assists in these appearances, which is a decent return for someone so young, playing in several different positions – it is no wonder Liverpool and Tottenham want to sign him.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, after the Reds and Spurs both made contact with Lyon.
