'I've heard': Conor Gallagher gives honest reaction to Enzo Maresca becoming new Chelsea manager

Conor Gallagher has now reacted to the confirmed news that Enzo Maresca will become Chelsea’s new head coach.

Chelsea finally announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca on Monday, with the Italian boss signing an initial five-year deal at Stamford Bridge. Incidentally, he officially starts in his new role on 1 July.

The 44-year-old has walked away from Leicester City to take the Chelsea job despite guiding the Foxes to promotion from the Championship last season.

Conor Gallagher reacts to Chelsea appointment

Chelsea and England midfielder Conor Gallagher, who played for his country on Monday night in a 3-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina, was asked about what’s happening at his club.

The 24-year-old Blues star has admitted he’s excited about Maresca’s appointment. In fact, he’s even heard a lot of positive things about his new head coach.

“Really exciting. I’ve heard really good things and seen really good things as well.,” Gallagher told Sky Sports News.

“Myself and everyone at Chelsea are really happy and excited to work with him.

“We want to get Chelsea back to where they belong so hopefully with the new manager we can start to progress to get where we belong.”

Will Enzo Maresca get to work with Conor Gallagher?

Certainly, Gallagher’s future is one of the biggest talking points at Chelsea this summer.

The box-to-box midfielder was instrumental for the Blues last season, regularly wearing the armband as the stand-in captain. He scored seven goals and made nine assists in 50 matches, too.

However, there’s a lot of speculation in the transfer rumour mill that the England man may be sold.

The Chelsea Chronicle thinks Gallagher could be brilliant playing as a No 8 in Maresca’s system, but will he still be in west London at the start of next season?

The Evening Standard claimed in May that Chelsea are prepared to listen to offers for both Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah this summer. Apparently, it’s quite an unpopular decision with the rest of the squad.

Gallagher’s the sort of all-action midfielder that any manager should want in his squad, but perhaps this is out of Maresca’s hands.
